The East Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit (ECTIU) is part of a national network that co-ordinates and supports counter terrorism (CT) investigations and manages the delivery of the government’s CONTEST strategy. Prevent is 1 of 4 strands of the CONTEST strategy which covers all forms of terrorism, including far right extremism and some aspects of non-violent extremism. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It achieves this by:
• Responding to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views
• Providing practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support
• Working with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health) where there are risks of radicalisation that we need to deal with.
The ECTIU currently has an exciting new opportunity to recruit a dedicated Prevent Analyst. The post holder will be responsible for the production of threat assessments that drive the delivery of Prevent across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. They will support the Regional Prevent Coordinator and statutory partners develop Prevent delivery plans, working in tandem with the Performance Analyst to assess impact. They will also be critical to the coordination of Prevent processes surrounding Missing People and Extremist Speakers whilst supporting the on-going evolution of Prevent Case Management.
The role will be diverse and challenging. It is essential that the successful candidate is highly motivated, organised and has a positive, flexible, approach to working whilst maintaining discretion. The post-holder will be expected to engage a range of audiences and must be capable of influencing and achieving the confidence of our customers.
It is essential that applicants are experienced in the use of MS Excel and familiar with i2 Notebook, Geographic Information Systems and relational databases. Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model would be an advantage, however, Analytical training will be provided.
Due to the nature of operational policing there could be a need for staff to work additional hours from time to time. The post will incur frequent travel to counties across the East region and as such the possession of a valid UK driving licence is essential. Additional working and travel requirements will be reimbursed in line with Force Policy.
Due to the sensitivities of the role all applicants are asked to maintain discretion about their application.
This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Enhanced Security Clearance vetting before taking up the post.
