*****Due to a change in structure within the BCH collaborated Unit, an exciting opportunity has become available for full time Decision Maker (Intelligence) within the newly centralised Firearms and Explosives licensing Department based at the Monks Wood site in Cambridgeshire.

If you are a self-motivated, experienced manager with a proven track record of strong decision making ability and are interested in working in a busy, friendly environment then this could be the job for you.

The Primary role of the Firearms and explosives licensing unit is to grants firearms, shotgun and explosives certificates to applicants who have a valid reason for possessing them, and who are assessed to pose no threat risk of harm to public safety under the provisions of the Firearms Act 1968, using a risk assessed approach, and applying the National Decision Making Model.

The Decision Maker role includes delegated responsibility for the granting, refusing and revoking of firearms, shotgun and explosives certificates on behalf of the three chief constables of the BCH consortium, decisions are based on reducing the risk to public safety through preventing foreseeable or avoidable harm.

As well as leading a small team of police staff enquiry officers, the post holder will also be primary SPOC for intelligence co-ordination and development of intelligence strategies and departmental procedures and processes.

They will also be responsible for training and mentoring of Firearms enquiry officers, and work as part of a decision making management team. Experience in interviewing, statement taking, and evidence collation would be an distinct advantage.

We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, has the ability to work under their own initiative, and the ability to support inspire and motivate a team.

This is a full time role, based at the Monks Wood site in Cambridgeshire, the post holder will also be required to meet with individual to perform risk assessments when required, including inspection of firearms dealers and clubs therefore the ability to visit various locations across Beds, Cambs and Herts is essential.
