Special Constable (Volunteer Police Officer) - Hertfordshire Constabulary 04/17 - 06/17

Special Constable
Hertfordshire Constabulary
Forcewide
If you are aged 18 or over and have a minimum of sixteen hours per month to spare, you could become a Special Constable. This is an exciting opportunity to help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and provide a high-visibility reassuring presence in your community, and in return, Specials receive excellent training and a wealth of opportunities and experience.

Specials have the same powers of search and arrest and wear the same uniform as regular Police Officers – the only difference is that they are volunteers. Specials are deployed in the front line of policing, shoulder to shoulder with their regular force colleagues, on a number of challenging situations throughout the week. Whilst Special Constables can complete their duties at a time convenient to them, if you are on duty in a busy town centre, you may find that there is more demand for you to work on a Friday/Saturday evening.

If policing a busy town centre is not for you, we are also keen to recruit Specials who have an interest in issues affecting the rural community to join as a Rural Special Constable to serve in partnership with our Rural Operations Support Team. While a beautiful and safe place to live, Hertfordshire is vulnerable to crimes being committed in remote rural locations.

You do not need any qualifications to become a Special. Your application will be marked against the competencies required for the role and if successful you will be invited to attend an assessment.

A part of the recruitment process is to attend a Special Constable information session and we strongly suggest you attend prior to submitting an application. Sessions are held on the last Wednesday evening of each month and you can register at this website via the events tab. The session will provide you with information about the role, the application process and what it’s like to be a Special Constable, from the people who know best, existing Special Constables.

So if you are considering voluntary work, you will not get a more rewarding opportunity as a volunteer to improve the quality of life within your own community, deal with a variety of challenges and develop a range of skills.

This opportunity is closed to applications.
