The system support group is a busy team within Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Polices Combined ICT department. The team supports in excess of 500 x86 virtual machines and 40 virtual Solaris systems. The team also support over 100 physical systems , 10 monolithic SAN’s and 15 modular SAN units with a total raw disk capacity is excess of 1.5PetaBytes. These disk capacity sizes will be increasing exponentially over the coming years as requirements change. So a flexible and willingness to learn is a key requirement as the department changes to meet the changing needs of the organisations.

The team supports a number of technologies and it is a requirement that individuals within the team are multi-skilled so as to provide an efficient support function to the organisation.

Technologies that are supported by SSG , it is essential that an individual is skilled in at least 1 of the top level functions and is willing to become skilled in other areas of SSG responsibility.
a) Windows Server (Versions: 2012 / 2008 / 2003)
Clustering , DFS, administration
b) Solaris or Linux Unix
Administration / clustering
c) SAN , either iSCSI or Fibre Channel (preference will be given to EMC experience)
Administration, installation
d) Oracle database Administration
Clustering / Recovery
e) MSSQL database administration
Clustering / Recovery
f) Server Hardware build experience
X86 HP and Dell server hardware
g) Cisco UCS administration
h) Virtualisation administration and installation
VMware or HyperV or Solaris virtualisation
i) Symantec Netbackup administration
Experience of Microsoft DPM would be beneficial
j) Computer Graduate
Needs to show keen interest in IT



Salary will be dependent on skills and experience

You should be able to drive and be willing to participate in an out of hours call out roster once experience is gained.
