Applications are invited for an Assistant Investigator vacancy within the St Albans Local Crime Unit.

This demanding role involves the investigation of crime and providing administrative support within a busy Office.

You will use designated powers to investigate offences through researching, gathering and obtaining evidence and intelligence by various means including interviewing witnesses and suspects and taking statements from them.

The successful candidates will be part of highly motivated team that ensures a first class service is provided to victims and witnesses.

You will need excellent communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills as your role will require you to deal with offenders, victims and witnesses. As an Assistant Investigator you will be required to research and update corporate computer systems therefore accuracy and attention to detail are vital.

You will also need to work on your own initiative and manage your time effectively in a busy investigative environment, ensuring that investigations are carried out and successfully concluded within the required timeframes. Investigations will be conducted both within the Police premises and externally.

The Office works a shift pattern 0800-0000 7 days a week but it is expected that the successful applicant will work Monday-Friday Office hours to support this.

Police Officers who accept an offer of a Police Staff role will need to retire as an Officer and if they are currently on the 30+ Scheme, will need to leave that Scheme.

Due to this role involving shift work, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment by the Occupational Health and Safety Department.
