Hertfordshire Constabulary has been in the top quartile of high performing forces for a number of years and has tangibly reduced crime rates, improved outcome rates and customer satisfaction levels.

We currently have opportunities for Detective Constables to work within the County Community Safety Unit.

Hertfordshire Constabulary polices an area of 632 square miles with a dedicated team of 3600 police officers and staff supported by more than 400 Special Constables.

With a population of well over a million, the mix of picturesque villages and busy urban environments bordering Greater London place a variety of demands on the police.

Headquarters in Welwyn Garden City provides a support and administrative function for the Constabulary and is the base for the County Community Safety Unit, comprising the following specialist investigative units;

  • Joint Child Protection Investigation Team (JCPIT) – a ground-breaking co-located team of specialist detectives working alongside social workers and health providers to safeguard children from inter-familial physical and sexual abuse.
  • Child Online Safeguarding Team (COST) – placing technical innovation at the forefront of their work, this team works closely with NCA CEOP to target offenders using the internet to further the sexual abuse of children.
  • Halo - Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation Team – working closely with social care colleagues and supported by the 3rd sector, this team is dedicated to protecting adolescent vulnerability.
  • Sexual Offence Investigation Team (SOIT) – a dedicated team of experienced officers investigating offences of serious sexual violence.
  • Safeguarding Adults From Abuse Team (SAFA) – working closely with colleagues from adult social care, this team investigates a wide-ranging remit of offences committed against elderly and other vulnerable adults.
  • Public Protection Unit (PPU) – managing over 900 Registered Sex Offenders in the community, this dedicated team of specialist offender managers and support staff work closely with the National Probation Service to oversee risk using established techniques as well as being one of only two police forces in the UK using polygraph to assist in this process.

 

Vacancies currently exist across the command and applicants will be asked to state a preference at point of application; however applicants should note that, whilst every effort will be made to allocate positions according to preference, operational necessity will dictate final postings.

Applicants should also note that due to the nature of the roles, all postings are subject to pre-employment psychological assessment with the Occupational Health Unit.
