BCH Scientific Services require a quality officer to join the small, busy quality team. The successful applicant will report directly to the SSU quality manager assisting a variety of forensic disciplines achieve and maintain accreditation and certification.

The successful applicant will have;
• Relevant experience of working in a quality management environment
• An awareness of International Standards For example: BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, , BS EN ISO 9001:2008
• Experience of internal auditing
• An eye for detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear & concise audit reports and assist in the production of documented procedures, processes and policies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with people at all levels and with different levels of technical understanding
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to plan and prioritise workload
• Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office
• A willingness to work over the three counties and be based at either Welwyn Garden City or Hinchingbrooke

The key responsibilities for the role include;
• To support the BCH SSU Quality Manager in the administration of the quality management systems.
• To help organise and provide support at annual ISO management review meetings, ISO Development meetings and external audits.
• Develop an awareness of ISO international standards, current legislation, updates, changes and introductions of new legislation.
• Provide assistance to the Quality Manager following set guidelines relating to the unit’s control of quality documentation. Follow set procedures to adequately control the business processes.
• Assist with the production, control, updating and distribution of QMS policies, procedures and forms to people internally and externally, in support of overall business goals.
• Support the Quality Manager to identify and assess customer requirements and ensure the QMS can fulfil them.
• Provide support to all customers (internal and external) on the management system and services offered by the unit.
• Support the Quality Manager in actively identifying and promoting continual improvement opportunities throughout the unit’s business activities.
• In conjunction with the Quality Manager, develop relationships and work closely with BCH SSU managers and staff and stakeholders to ensure a smooth and effective assessment of all relevant units.
• Assist in the administration and any necessary adjustment of the audit schedules comprising of both internal and external audits.
• Personally undertake audits and support new and trainee internal auditors.
• Under the supervision of the Quality Manager review audit reports and address issues highlighted through audits, analyse root causes and assist in taking effective action to prevent re-occurrence.
• Ensure that communication takes place regarding updates, changes and the general effectiveness of the management system to all members of staff. Be regarded as a point of contact for internal and external communications relating to quality.
