ERSOU Prison Intelligence Unit fights organised crime and terrorism at every level and the work we do potentially helps to save thousands of lives.

Working within the fight against organised crime and counter terrorism is an exciting and challenging role which provides excellent development opportunities within a busy and fast-moving environment.

The current threat level from terrorism is at Severe and this role is critical to assist in identifying and preventing terrorist acts within and outside the prison estate. You will be supporting local forces, the prison estate, and wider CT network by being part of a team of police officers and police staff, assessing and responding to intelligence on organised crime, radicalisation, extremism, and attack planning emanating from the prison estate.

The Prison Intelligence Unit works with both regional and national prisons, and the CT network to deny persons the opportunity to continue their criminal activities, and their ability to plan and commit terrorist acts. The successful candidate must have a proven track record in working in intelligence and recognising threat, harm, and risk.

This is your chance to rise to a new and exciting challenge while gaining invaluable experience that will move your career forward.

This role requires the post holder to manage the flow of Police intelligence from receipt through registration and dissemination to Analysts and the wider Law Enforcement Network. You will also be required to administrate the monthly Multi Agency Extremism Screening Meeting working with partner agencies where we plan for the release of key individuals back into our communities.

Due to the nature of operational policing there could be the need for staff to work additional hours as required but these will be negotiated and reimbursed against Force Policy.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting and Security Clearance or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. If you hold dual nationality, one component of which is British, you may also be considered. However, if successful, you may be asked to relinquish your non‐British nationality (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with ECTIU. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:
- We take ownership
- We are collaborative
- We deliver, support and inspire
- We are innovative and open-minded.
Please note there is a 500 words limit for each competency.
