Safeguarding Command

The Hertfordshire Constabulary Safeguarding Command is headed by Detective Superintendent Paul Maghie.

This Command has three strands, and as follows:
• Protecting Vulnerable Children
• Protecting Vulnerable Adults
• Domestic Abuse & Honour Based Abuse

Applications are invited from candidates who have existing investigative skills and to join the Safeguarding Command via flexible contract and 12 month fixed term contract arrangements, extendable by mutual consent.

This advert is for various units across the safeguarding command, therefore the shift pattern will vary depending on which role you apply for.

In recognition of the requirement for existing investigative experience, successful candidates can expect to achieve pay grades of between £24,030 and £31,053 p.a. and subject to relevant experience.

The requirements for increasing investigative capabilities in Hertfordshire are intended to increase the numbers of investigators in specialist Safeguarding teams, and as follows:

Safeguarding Vulnerable Children
• The Joint Child Protection Investigation Team – (this team is co-located in Welwyn Garden City with specialist social workers from the Local Authority)
• The Child On-Line Safeguarding Team
Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults
• The Sexual Offences Investigation Team
• The Safeguarding Adults from Abuse Team
• The Public Protection Unit
Domestic Abuse
• The Domestic Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit

In Hertfordshire, these specialist teams work closely with colleagues in the Local Policing Command. These teams provide specialist investigations, leading on all evidential requirements and bringing offenders to justice. The teams also provide specialist safeguarding provisions for victims and witnesses.

This is an exciting time for the Safeguarding Command, and newly appointed investigators can expect to contribute to a wide range of investigations. The daily deployment of investigative resources ranges from enquiries into minor criminal offences to very substantial and long term investigations into very serious offences.

Interested applicants should provide an expression of interest which should not exceed 500 words, and which will explain how they can contribute to this important Command, and are additionally invited to provide a précis of relevant investigative experience.

Applicants will be short-listed and a formal interview may be necessary.
