***The Force Crime Registrar’s team ensure that crime recording standards throughout the Constabulary are consistently achieved.

The candidate will be required to support the Force Crime Registrar in maintaining high levels of compliance with NCRS and HOCR. They will supervise a team of auditors carrying out regular quality assurance audits to the National Crime Recording Standard, the National Standard for Incident Recording and specific data compliance audits within specialist police data systems.

Accordingly, applicants will require knowledge of the following:

• National Standard for Incident Recording (NSIR),
• National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS)
• Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR)

We are looking for a candidate who possess a high level of knowledge in crime and incident recording standards. The role will require the successful applicant to be able to give advice and guidance on the correct interpretation and application of the standards and rules to any member of the Constabulary requiring assistance. They will be required to present to senior personal and where necessary provide training input across departments.

The role will require regular detailed thematic inspections and audits to ensure consistent and sustained compliance. If unsatisfactory results are found during audit the applicant must be able to articulate the reason both written and by verbal presentation. The applicant must be able to determine any common cause or theme relating to both good and unsatisfactory recording practice.

The applicant will be expected to be able to produce reports highlighting areas of good practice and any area where standards may not be satisfactory. They will also need to present these at high level management boards. This work requires overseeing a high volume of audits and we are looking for applicants who have the skills and ability to manage large workloads.
Part of the role will require being nationally accredited as a Crime Registrar, this includes attending a course provided by the College of Policing.
