As part of a specialised regional team, the post holder will deliver security advice to locations which are more vulnerable to attack from terrorists and domestic extremists. Although you will be employed by Bedfordshire Police the successful candidate will be based in and operate from Essex. However given the nature of the CT effort this is a regional role and there will be an expectation to provide support in any of the Eastern County forces, you therefore must have a full driving licence.

This is a great opportunity to join a team of around 20 colleagues who are dedicated to this cause, through carrying out surveys to help risk assess those locations. A candidate that can demonstrate experience of operating within a Counter Terrorism environment is highly desirable.

The role of a CTSA involves conducting surveys and retaining ongoing liaison at numerous key sites which constitute a crowded place, contain hazardous materials or represent critical infrastructure. The role of a CTSA also includes providing personal protective security advice and to deliver National Counter Terrorism security advice and presentations.

As a strategic representative of Counter Terrorism Policing, the post holder will be required to show personal drive, an ability to work alone but also as part of a team, show good interpersonal and presentation skills and be able to communicate at all levels with confidence. They must also be able to demonstrate good IT skills, excellent record keeping management, provide evidence of problem solving and a high level of personal responsibility. The post holder will have good Community and Customer focus along with good planning skills.

This is a full time post ensuring office coverage across the core office hours of 08:00 to 17:00. The working day is 8 hours including lunch break and on occasions you will need to be flexible outside of the hours to ensure service to our partners and clients. This position is not currently suitable for part time working.

The successful candidate will need to be able to attend and pass the CTSA 3 week foundation course as well as a series of thematic based courses during the first two years. You will be expected to attain the relevant Certificate of Occupational Competence or qualification as determined by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) within 2 years.

Due to the level and cost of training involved and provided there will be a payback clause attached to this role and will be expected to commit to a minimum of 3 years.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting and Security Clearance or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. If you hold dual nationality, one component of which is British, you may also be considered. However, if successful, you may be asked to relinquish your non‐British nationality (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with ECTIU. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:
