In times of economic challenge Organisations require efficient, effective and lean business services. Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police (BCH) are realising collaborative opportunities, bringing together many of their corporate services; driving better value for the Police and the wider tax payer.

Our Tri-County Strategic Procurement function leads the development of commercial strategies which help us deliver the Police and Crime Plan. It ensures we meet the organisation’s needs and at the same time, make the most of our budget. The function provides Commissioning, Category Management and Contract Management services and seeking to recruit 5 Contracts Officers to join the team.

Procurement in the Police is no run of the mill affair. Along with traditional categories like Facilities or ICT, you may find yourself responsible for the delivery of front line critical supplies such as body armour or forensics.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end management of multiple work streams. You will oversee the development and implementation of category plans; create commercial strategies; lead major sourcing activities and manage BCH’s strategic suppliers and strategic contracts. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and Officers, often within challenging timeframes and budgetary restraints, helping to ensure the Organisation remains focused on protecting the public.

It’s a chance to make a real difference to Policing by creating cost efficiencies and driving innovation.

As a Contracts Officer we’ll look to you to provide a commercially astute strategic procurement service; acquiring goods and services that offer maximum value for money.

Ideally CIPS qualified, you will have a background driving efficiency and cost reduction, whilst ensuring quality meets the service requirements. A knowledge of public sector procurement would benefit your application.

Reporting to a Contracts Manager, you’ll need experience in procurement or commercial environment, have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
