A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Chief Inspector for the JPS Armed Policing Unit. Expressions of interest are invited from both substantive Chief Inspectors and Inspectors who have been supported in their application for the forthcoming Chief Inspectors promotion process, who are ready to take on a significant leadership challenge.

JPS Uniform Policing Services (UPS), provides specialist policing capability to Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire local policing and this role will see the successful candidate take responsibility for the running of the Armed Policing Unit, who are based at Huntingdon and Luton Airport, along with the Firearms Training Centre, based in Kempston.

UPS are currently experiencing a high demand for service due to local policing pressures and the ongoing threats to our national security. Coupled with this is the requirement to work in partnership with the JPS 2020 Transformation Team, to achieve efficiency savings, which presents a particularly challenging context in which to work in.

The Senior Management Team believe that there has never been a better time to join JPS.

The department has gone from strength to strength in the last 5 years of being a tri-force collaborated function. The challenges faced provide an opportunity for the right person to shape the future of the JPS Uniform function within APU and deliver effective and sustainable support to local policing.

You will be supported by a dedicated senior leadership team who share the responsibility of delivering operational excellence and workforce transformation and who are dedicated to delivering results against the Mission, Vision and Values of JPS through our people.

You do not need any prior experience of working within JPS or any of the uniform functions, nor are you requited have any relevant command experience.

Due to the training costs associated with this role, JPS Senior Management expect a return on investment, which is set at a minimum of 36 months.

JPS would like to hear from people who are motivated, resilient leaders and who are solution oriented with a proved track record in leading change. The base location for the post holder is flexible and can be negotiated to suit both personal and business needs. Due to the geographical spread of the department there is an expectation that the successful candidate will travel across the strategic alliance and at times nationally, to meet the business needs and support then unit’s regional and national portfolios. Flexible working patterns will be considered and applications from under-represented groups are particularly encouraged.

> Please note that those who apply whilst undertaking the Chief Inspectors promotion process, will be automatically removed from this application should they not be successful at any stage of the promotion board process. Should there be selection to include those successful in the promotion board process, these will happen after the promotion board but prior to the Chief Inspector postings meeting to ensure a coordinated and efficient process.*

For any further information on this role please contact T/ACC Paul Fullwood, Chief Superintendent Mel Dales.

All applicants must print off a copy of the BCH application approval form and pass this onto their line manager and head of department for sign off. As this is a PDF document this will need to be wet signed. Though we will accept an audit trail of emails from your line manager and Head of Department if this is not achieveable.

The completed approval form needs to be returned to the BCHCareers@herts.pnn.police.uk as close to the closing date as possible.  Application forms will not be progressed to the shortlisting stage until the Recruitment Team has received a completed approval form.
