This advert is for a projected sergeant vacancy that will exist within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit Confidential Unit (ERSOU Confi) in the new year.

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit has responsibility for targeting serious and organised crime across Beds, Herts, Cambs, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent and the delivery of specialist covert services to Forces when required.

Within the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit is the Confidential Unit, which is a specialist unit working with sensitive intelligence to support proactive covert operations. ERSOU Confidential Unit is at the heart of driving the Eastern Region Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) in delivering specialist covert policing capabilities, tackling the threat of those police forces that form part of the Eastern Region and identifying Organised Crime Groups to be enforced upon. The successful applicant will supervise a team to deliver the objectives of the unit reporting to the Confidential Unit Intelligence manager. Whilst current accreditation of IPP intelligence supervisor is not essential, previous experience of working in a pro-active intelligence environment is.

This role is for sergeants from the seven regional forces or transferees who seek to undertake intelligence work in support of serious and organised crime investigations. Officers will work with the ERSOU operational teams, the Serious and Organised Crime teams in each of the Forces, and any other Force department or Agencies who require specialist intelligence support. Support will also be provided to Major Crime led Crime In Action investigations (Kidnap and Extortion).

The successful applicant will work from discreet premises in Hertfordshire but will be expected to represent the unit across the region at operational meetings. The office is staffed between 0800-1800 hours but the nature of the work often dictates the hours of duty according to the operational need meaning that a flexible approach to the working day needs to be applied. There is a requirement to perform on-call duties and work a minimum of one weekend every eight weeks.

Applicants will be expected to provide evidence against the four competencies listed below under the new values framework the technical entry requirements on the role profile. Applicants should provide no more than 500 words for each of these areas.

Applicants must either be supported by their Eastern Region Home Force for release to ERSOU, or be prepared to transfer permanently from their Home Force to Bedfordshire Police (as this is the lead force for ERSOU). 

This vacancy is currently not available for Officers from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. 

Officers from Essex, Kent, Norfolk and Suffolk are all welcome to apply.
