Counter Terrorism Borders Policing Control desk and research officer: 2 full time vacancies

ERSOU Counter Terrorism Policing
37 Hours – Monday to Friday (Police staff)

The opportunity has arisen for the role of a Counter Terrorism Borders Policing Control desk and research officer within ERSOU-CTP. This vacancy is based at Stansted airport in Essex.

This is a new position borne of the creation of a new national standard of ‘control desks’ within CT Border policing. The control desk will be a regional capability delivered at two points (Luton and Stansted airports) being responsible for the receipt and recording of all actions coming into the ports. Calls may be received from national partners, both internal and external to CT Policing, along with local partners, for example Border Force, airport security, airline and handling agents and local policing. Control desk and research officers will prioritise the action to be taken, make a record of it and engage with the duty Police supervisor. Additionally, some research will be undertaken of police and CT databases to support Police officer activity.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person looking to work within the Counter Terrorism environment. You will be recognising the priority of those calls received and working with police officers to support the gathering of high quality intelligence from CT subjects of interest. Successful candidates will be an integral part of developing and maintaining a first-class relationship with all partners who engage with CT Border Policing, recognising the value of calls received and the scope for CT intervention in pursuit of CT intelligence objectives. At the same time, opportunities around safeguarding and crime will be exploited within CT borders policing or diverted to appropriate partners after officer intervention.

The nature of CT Borders Policing means that information of a sensitive nature is dealt with by the team, and as such all staff within the unit are expected to be diligent in their handling of information, and the suitable candidate must successfully undertake vetting to DV level. Successful applicants may be able to take up the post initially provided they can pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance, whilst developed vetting is progressed. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. If you hold dual nationality, one component of which is British, you may also be considered. However, if successful, you may be asked to relinquish your non‐British nationality (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with ERSOU CT Policing. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.
