Calls can come at any time, so there is a core shift pattern which covers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our Communications Operators answer emergency and non-emergency calls and direct resources across the County.

As one of the team, you’ll receive extensive training and on-the-job support to prepare you for the challenging variety of calls and roles ahead.

No matter what type of call comes in, your compassion, patience and professionalism must remain and that means thinking on your feet whilst providing reassurance and obtaining the relevant information to enable the correct deployment of appropriate police responses as necessary.

In return we will offer you an attractive salary and a busy operational role where you can play a key part in protecting the public from harm. The starting salary is £27,339 inclusive of shift allowance, if you work full-time, and you can earn up to £31,995 per annum inclusive of shift allowance if you stay in this role and gain yearly pay increments.

The application process involves an application form, an assessment (including a typing test) and if successful at assessment an interview. We are recruiting for a pool of people for intakes over the next six to twelve months.

For an informal chat or to find out more about the role, please contact Vanessa Green, FCR Manager on 01707 354451.

For the purposes of the application you will be expected to provide evidence against the three questions below:

• What attracted you to becoming a Communications Operator with Hertfordshire Constabulary?
• What personal qualities/values, skills and knowledge do you possess to support you within your role as a Communications Operator?
• What duties do you think you will carry out as a Communications Operator?

There is a word count limit of 500 words per section.

Please note, if you are shortlisted for interview you will be expected to evidence against all personal qualities and the entry requirements stipulated in the role profile.
