Applications are invited from Constables to join the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, which is part of Joint Protective Services (JPS).  The unit currently has two bases, the Northern base at Cambridgeshire HQ, Huntingdon and the South base at Stevenage Police Station, Herts. 

Road Policing officers provide a vital service across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire as part of the JPS Strategic Alliance.

Policing a diverse mix of rural and urban environments that comprise Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire provides for exciting challenges. With a combined population of over 2.5 million people it is a particularly diverse and challenging environment for the Road Policing Team, who deal with around 80 fatal road traffic collisions per year.


The team provides 24 hour cover across the three counties, working towards Casualty Reduction and Road Safety objectives and making people safe on our roads. Officers also have the opportunity to become an Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO).

Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Constabulary are now seeking applications from suitably qualified Road Policing teams who are looking for a lateral transfer to join this specialist team within the Collaborated Joint Protective Services.

The successful applicants will have good communication skills and will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of, and recent operational experience in Road Policing. Applicants must also hold a current Advanced Driving permit.

Successful applicants will receive training in Tactical Pursuit and Containment (TPAC) and will be expected to complete a Traffic Law Course and become Family Liaison Officers (FLO).


The successful applicant will be part of a team of 28 officers per shift (15 in the south base, Stevenage and 13 in the north base, Huntingdon) and will be responsible for Road Policing patrols across Beds, Cambs and Herts.

Candidates who are successful in the paper sift will be invited to attend a formal interview. The date for this interview is TBC.

 

Those applicants who are successful will then be required to attend a medical, fitness test and an advanced driving assessment.

 

Any offer would be subject to satisfactory complains and discipline checks, references, medical, vetting and security checks.

Road Policing expect a return on investment from successful candidates for this role of 36 months.
