Applications are invited for a new and exciting opportunity in the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Athena Support and Development Team working across the forces and wider region to scope, develop and deliver Athena upgrades and associated innovative projects to Police officers and staff.
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people to join our new Athena Support and Development Team as Athena Support and Development Officers.
Athena has replaced local legacy police systems used to manage data on offenders, suspects, victims and incidents, with a single IT system which manages police investigations, intelligence and defendants (both custody and case preparation) across all member forces. The project provides frontline police officers and support staff access to more detailed and up to date information to help forces to build comprehensive 'pictures' of suspects, crime and incident patterns more thoroughly. Officers and staff at each phase of the Criminal Justice process are able to view all records for the suspect from each member force resulting in swifter justice.
As an Athena Support and Development Officer you will be an integral part of a small team, ensuring the effective and efficient provision of Athena support to end users and partners. This will include providing subject matter expertise and guidance to staff regarding Athena and related systems, managing resources, driving performance, direct user support and will also include the development and delivery of training materials.

Through the use of excellent communication skills you will be able to liaise with suppliers and stakeholders in order to problem solve, report defects and maintain appropriate records to ensure issues identified are dealt with swiftly and efficiently. Equally you will be able to represent Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire police organisations in meetings with other forces and partners, at regional and national level. By effective engagement with stakeholders you will be able to assist them on processes and functionality, policies, business impact assessments and process mapping. You will be able to advise departments affected by changes to ensure that they are cognisant of the impacts and subsequent actions required. This will also include advising on future development and testing to enable effective integration for new or amended interface releases. This will include the maintenance of accurate records with responsibility for feedback and lessons learned. You will be able to provide direction, advice and support to the organisations in relation to data management and data quality including overseeing the feedback of lessons learned and identification of risk.

Written communication skills are essential, to support the production of training material and best practice manuals. You will also oversee training to officers and staff in the use of current and new Athena applications and will assist with the design and delivery of ‘train the trainer’ and bespoke training courses.
The role is based at Halsey Road in Kempston, Bedfordshire with some agile working. At times you will be expected to travel across the strategic alliance and beyond.
For further information on this role, please contact Chief Inspector Claire Ackerman du Preez via email in the first instance at Claire.ackermandupreez@bedfordshire.pnn.police.uk
