The purpose of the main unit is to carry out various background checks for job applicants for those who wish to work within the police community. These checks are designed to ensure the integrity of the police service by minimising the risk of corruption. The role also incorporates the issuing of police ID cards and access to police buildings.

The successful candidates will join a team of about 26 people, spending the vast majority of time using various computer based software, both corporate and specialised systems from all three forces and national IT systems. It will be necessary to accurately input data; to collate, research and analyse information, giving a subjective opinion by informed decisions upon information gathered from computer and manual records. There is opportunity to use your own initiative by providing written rationale decisions on relevancy, and to provide a written summary of your findings, which will eventually be used in employment decisions.

You should be able to work within in a high volume customer focused environment, working within set time scales. You will need to use your own initiative, be well-organised and self-managed.

Also that the duel role is currently subject to a staff consultation with a view to splitting the two roles in the next few months. There are sufficient vacancies to ensure that all existing Access & Vetting permanent personnel will be offered a post and where successful through this process, potential personnel as well.
