Due to a change in structure within the BCH collaborated Unit, an opportunity has become available for a full time field based Firearms and Explosive Licensing Enquiry Officer (FEO) within our newly restructured department. This is an agile role, based at Welwyn Garden City, Watford or Kempston for which you will utilise a fleet vehicle, so the ability to travel to various locations across the tri force area is essential.

The primary role of the Firearms and explosives licensing unit is to grant firearms, shotgun and explosives certificates to applicants who have a valid reason for possessing them, and who are assessed to pose no treat risk or harm to public safety under the provision of the Firearms Act 1968.

If you are a self-motivated, with a proven track record of risk based decision making ability and have experience and knowledge in firearms and licensing legislation, this could be the job for you.
The duties of the FEO role includes undertaking personal visit enquiries, telephone interviews and associated administration regarding the granting, renewal or refusal of firearms, shotgun and/or explosives certificates using a risk based assessment approach, following the National Intelligence Model principles.

You will also deal with licensing issues relating to Registered Firearms dealers and shooting clubs. You will also act on intelligence information received, and conduct enquiries in to the continued suitability of certificate holders who come to notice for intelligence or recorded incident/crimes purposes.

The core working hours of the role are Monday to Friday 8-4.

We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, have the ability to work under their own initiative as part of a team, experience in intelligence methods, interrogation of police information systems interviewing, and statement taking would be a distinct advantage.
