Due to a change in structure within the BCH collaborated Unit, an exciting opportunity has become available for a full time Firearms and Explosive Licensing Enquiry Officer (FEO) within our newly formed proactive team within the centralised Firearms and Explosives licensing Department. This is a fixed site role not suitable for agile working, so the ability to travel to and work from Monks Wood is essential.

The primary role of the Firearms and explosives licensing unit is to grant firearms, shotgun and explosives certificates to applicants who have a valid reason for possessing them, and who are assessed to pose no treat risk or harm to public safety under the provision of the Firearms Act 1968
The duties of the FEO role within the proactive team includes undertaking enquiries, interviews and associated administration regarding the granting, renewal or refusal of firearms, shotgun and/or explosives certificates using a risk based assessment approach, following the National Intelligence Model principles. Supervised and lead by the Intelligence decision maker within the unit, the proactive FEO role will have a focus on providing improved intelligence functionality to the unit, and identifying and developing increased proactive intelligence functions.

We are looking for individuals who are self-motivated, has the ability to work under their own initiative as part of a team, experience in intelligence methods, interrogation of police information systems interviewing, and statement taking would be a distinct advantage.

This is a full time, office based role, based at the Monks Wood site in Cambridgeshire, however visits and inspections of certificate holders, dealers and clubs also forms part of the role according to demand, and so the ability to travel to various locations across BCH utilizing a pool car is essential.
