Detective Chief Inspector PURSUE INVESTIGATIONS – ERSOU CTP – Based in Hertfordshire

40 hours – Monday to Friday

Applications from both substantive Detectives Chief Inspectors and substantive Chief Inspectors are invited for a secondment opportunity within the ERSOU CTP.

Operating in central Hertfordshire the unit is responsible for the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Successful applicants will be seconded to Bedfordshire Police on behalf of the unit.

ERSOU CTP fights terrorism at every level and the work we do potentially helps to save thousands of lives. Our unit works with communities to prevent the opportunity to allow terrorist acts to occur, co-ordinates the policing effort to secure UK borders and ensures that police and communities can work together to restore normality should a terrorist act occur.

Working in partnership with the Security Service and other intelligence agencies you will be responsible for the investigation and development of intelligence on matters of National Security which includes International Counter Terrorism, Northern Irish Republican Terrorism and Domestic Extremism. Initially you will be managing regional operational units including the Dedicated Source Unit, Intelligence Management Units, Development and Tasking teams and the Analytical Teams. However, the successful applicant should expect to be moved within the CT command structure. You will ensure that operational activity is compliant with Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.

This role requires travelling within the Eastern Region and beyond working with forces in a supporting and developing manner.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting and Security Clearance or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. If you hold dual nationality, one component of which is British, you may also be considered. However, if successful, you may be asked to relinquish your non‐British nationality (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with ECTIU. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

Ordinarily normal office hours apply to this post however, due to the nature of operational policing there is a need for flexibility.

Whilst the role is based in Central Hertfordshire much time is spent away from the office within the Eastern Region and beyond working with forces in a supporting and developing manner.

Sitting within the Senior Management Team and working to the (Detective Superintendent) Head of Unit you will help shape the future of the National CT structure.

The post holder will be expected to support the “Senior On-Call” rota for the Eastern Region.
