7 Forces Chief Firearms Instructor (CFI)

Eastern Region Armed Policing (7 Forces) is currently seeking to identify an individual suitable to hold the post of 7 Forces Chief Firearms Instructor.

Grade: Inspector or police staff: Bedfordshire PO5, Cambridgeshire MB2, Hertfordshire A6, Norfolk/Suffolk Band I, Essex PO4 and Kent Grade G

Location: Local force (required to travel across the seven forces)

Duration: Permanent

Overview of role: The 7 Force Chief Firearms Instructor will organise, supervise and implement the firearms training plan to meet the needs of the 7 Forces of the Eastern Region in line with the College of Policing licensing standards and Armed Policing Approved Professional Practice (APP) and National Police Firearms Training Curriculum (NPFTC).

The successful applicant will remain employed by their home force, although whilst in post will be seconded to work under the direction and control of the 7 Force Armed Policing Governance Structure. Day to day management will be undertaken by the 7 Force Training Delivery Manager and the function overseen by the 7 Force Specialist Operational Policing Superintendent working on behalf of the ACC Eastern Region Armed Policing Lead.

The post holder will set the 7 Force Armed Policing training standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensure that all training meets the needs and requirement of the Strategic Threat and Risk Assessments of each force or collaborative group (or 7 Force Eastern Region Firearms STRA), ensure that all Firearms Instructors are trained and accredited to National Standards, and that relevant continuous personal development in respect of all staff within the training team in appropriate and includes formal assessments of delivery standards.

Experience: This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who has prior experience and proven success in the role of Chief Firearms Instructor or Deputy Chief Firearms Instructor or similar function. You should be able to demonstrate extensive experience and successful delivery of a broad range of subjects within the National Police Firearms Training Curriculum.

The nature of the role will require the successful candidate to show experience of carrying out Training Needs Analysis, training design, evaluation and delivery and experience and delivery of a College of Policing licensing process.

The Post Holder must be (or in the previous 6 months have been) an accredited Chief Firearms Instructor, an accredited National Firearms Instructor and be in a position to hold Security Clearance to SC. Experience working within a collaborative environment would be extremely beneficial. Experience in staff supervision, and the capacity to contribute to building a team focused on high quality customer service and achieving departmental and/or strategic objectives is essential.

Travel: Whilst the role will be based at the local force location, you will be required as part of the role to regularly travel to other establishments across the seven forces. Applicants should be willing (if required) to become essential mileage users.
