Hertfordshire Constabulary has a well-supported, ambitious and growing Special Constabulary and we are proud to lead nationally on the structured Career Pathways and specialisms being offered to Special Constables.

We are seeking motivational, emotionally intelligent leaders to become part of our Special Constabulary Senior Management Team. You will play a pivotal part in leading our volunteer police workforce, providing strategic and operational direction. You will work in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office, our communities and regular workforce, to ensure that Hertfordshire Constabulary continues to deliver an exceptional policing service.

You should have a thorough understanding of a Special Constabulary which is fully integrated into the regular service and how this supports day to day policing challenges. This presents an opportunity to transfer your leadership skills into a new and challenging environment. Both ranks have the requirement to be part of the Special Constabulary Bronze on call rota. Hertfordshire Special Constabulary has a fully resourced HQ team consisting of a regular Inspector and police staff, delivering a slick and innovative recruitment process and a strong support network for our Special Constables.

Substantive Special Inspectors and above, from Home Office police services are invited to apply for the rank of Special Chief Inspector. There are 2 vacancies and the role profiles are attached. These are-

- Local Policing Special Chief Inspector, managing half of Hertfordshire’s Special Constabulary local policing teams

- Special Chief Inspector for specialist policing teams - Operation Support Teams, Roads Policing Unit, Investigative teams and the specialist cadre roles.

Substantive Special Chief Inspectors and above are invited to apply for the rank of Special Superintendent. There are 2 vacancies-

- Workforce Development Special Superintendent - Working with regular colleagues in recruitment, student development, CPD training, ESP, Career Pathways, promotions and performance.

- Strategy lead – working with the Chief Officer Team and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver national CIP and Special Constabulary strategy into Hertfordshire. To map Herts Special Constabulary strategy against this and deliver the objectives.

Face to face selection processes will take place week commencing 9th December for Special Superintendent and week commencing 16th December for Special Chief Inspector. The format will be a presentation and panel interview, covering the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework at the relevant levels.
