We strongly advise that you read the information available on our website prior to completing the application form as it contains important information and guidance; the information will assist you with making a successful application and also provides a comprehensive overview of the entry requirements.

In addition, the attached document will provide you with all the information you need to complete your application.

Please note, for Hertfordshire internal candidates, if you are currently a Communications Operator, Detention Officer or a PCSO you will need to have completed a minimum level of service in that role before applying for the role of Police Officer. This is to ensure the Constabulary receives a return on investment on the training invested for your current role. This 12 months for PCSO's and 18 months for both Communications Operators and Detention Officers.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to fairness towards all members of the community. We are looking for individuals with a range of skills and experiences from a mixture of backgrounds in order to deliver an excellent Police service. We welcome and encourage applications from all diverse groups from within our communities.

Please note that all applications received will undergo the shortlisting stage within a month from submission.  If you are successful in the police officer application you will then be asked to provide evidence of your academic qualifications for assessment by Anglia Ruskin University if you have applied for the Police Constable Apprenticeship Programme.

When applying for the PCDA route, please ensure you meet the academic requirements to apply; You must have Level 2 Qualifications (GCSE or Functional Skills) in Maths & English GCSE GRADES A-C or 4-9 and two A Levels or equivalent (Level 3) in any subject totalling a minimum of 64 UCAS points.

If your Level 2 qualifications are not GCSE’s but are Level 2 Functional Skills in Numeracy & Literacy, to be accepted they must have been completed in England. If they were not, you will need to retake in England with your local College or similar education provider.

If you are currently awaiting your Level 3 Examinations and have predicted grades, you can still apply if your predicted grades are 64 UCAS points and above. You will then need to update us with your confirmed results and certificates when in receipt of them.

If you do not have the Level 3 qualifications required but have GCSE’s or equivalent (Level 2 Functional Skills in numeracy and literacy) in Maths & English Grades A-C or 4-9, we do accept some career experience (two years+) as an equivalent; Armed Forces (4 years), Nursing/Care sector, Social Work, Youth Work, Charity Work, Teaching, Justice & Law Enforcement, Police Staff – Custody, Public Contact and Investigative Roles, PCSO, Special Constable (independent for min of 2 years), Criminal Justice, CPS, Court Service, Border Force, Prison Service, Local Authority roles with Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Service, Cyber/Digital & Financial Fraud Roles or roles focused on promotion of equality of opportunity & inclusion.
