An exciting opportunity has come up for a Police Staff Member to join the Cambridgeshire Police Initial Training Department based at Monks Wood.   

The role itself provides an excellent work life balance, there is flexibility and a lot of opportunities for further training and CPD. Initial Training is undergoing a significant period of change largely due to an uplift in police officer numbers and changes in curriculum content linked to the transition to PEQF.   

As a result, an opportunity has arisen for a Police Trainer to join our dynamic training team to support this exciting period of change.   

The courses are delivered in accordance with the College of Policing standards. Providing law and procedure training to newly recruited Police Officers, PCSO’s and Special Constables. The training is about providing students with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitude, and behaviour to perform their duties.   

IT skills are essential in modern policing and the ideal candidate will already be proficient in current IT systems and capable of learning new IT skills with a view to training others. You must have as a minimum a level 3 training qualification to apply and ideally working towards a higher teaching qualification.  

You will have responsibility for identifying and managing any performance related issues in relation to students, should they arise and do so with transparency, fairness, and the upmost professionalism. You will lead by example with regards to standards of behaviour and uphold and actively promote the Code of Ethics at all times.   

As a trainer, on occasions, you may be requested to contribute to the design of specialist subject training programs, which are then delivered across BCH. These are ad-hoc projects and require a good understanding of the basic principles of learning. You will also be required to take responsibility for quality assurance of curriculum material to ensure that we are current and compliant with our delivery.   

The vacancy is a full-time permanent post. You will be based at Monkswood; however, you will need to be flexible as this is a collaborated unit and you may be expected to work from any of the Beds, Cambs and Herts training sites.  

You need to have excellent communication,  interpersonal skills and the ability to plan and organize yourselves and others alongside a busy training schedule.   

If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be expected to evidence against all the personal qualities and entry requirements as stipulated in the role profile and deliver a short micro teaching session (approximately 15 minutes). Candidates will be advised of the topic heading at the time of being advised they have been shortlisted for interview. The purpose of this micro teaching session is to satisfy the board that you possess the communication skills required to deliver training in an effective, professional, and successful manner.
