An opportunity has arisen to join a relatively new team, in a challenging but rewarding role, helping to further develop and embed the Prevention First approach in Hertfordshire. This ethos aims to put ‘prevention at the heart of all we do’ preventing harm by identifying risk, and tackling the root cause of issues both operationally and within the organisation. 

The successful candidate will take over and lead the Prevention First Academy and continue to develop our approach to supporting our workforce to understand and implement the ‘Prevention First’ model.  

The Academy is responsible for ensuring that there is a sound understanding of ‘preventive policing’ across the force and provide access to a range of resources, events, and training to ensure that it can be applied to daily business. The post-holder will champion, promote, and advise on the preventive policing approach, supporting colleagues in the Prevention First Hub, our ambassadors, and the workforce. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the development and creation of training material in conjunction with external and internal partners, researching new and innovative ways to promote preventive policing. You will have line management responsibility for a team of officers and staff who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Academy, and delivery of the training. 

The role profile identifies all the key responsibilities, these include: 

  • Delivering against the force preventive policing approach, the Five Pillars of Prevention 
  • Collaboration across the organisation to inform preventive policing priorities, in particular the Strategic Hub and Neighbourhood Policing leads 
  • Supporting Senior Leaders in policing, partners, and external subject matter experts, and 
  • Management of the Academy ‘centre of excellence’ vision 

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an excellent ability to negotiate with and influence Senior Officers and Managers. The successful applicant will need to provide evidence of managerial experience and have evidence to demonstrate your skills in managing projects for delivery.
