Hertfordshire Hate Crime Partnership Board

Do you want to make a difference to the communities in Hertfordshire and take a stand for equality and justice? Are you interested in partnership work and learning how the public and voluntary sector work together? Would you like to develop chairing skills with a varied and multi-agency group? Then Hertfordshire’s Hate Crime Partnership Board has an opportunity for you!

Hate crimes can spread messages of fear in our communities causing mistrust and have a lasting impact, both physically and emotionally, to individuals and families throughout our county. Nationally, hate crime is a vastly under-reported crime. There has been a 9% rise in recorded Hate Offences in England and Wales in 2020/21 (Hate Crime Statistics, House of Commons library, November 2021) You now have an opportunity to make a difference for people who experience Hate Crime in Hertfordshire to ensure their voices are heard at a County wide level. Hertfordshire’s Hate Crime Partnership Board (HCPB) wants to recruit to the vital role of Independent Co-Chair. The HCPB oversees the delivery of the county’s strategy for tackling hate crime. The partnership includes both statutory and voluntary partners. The HCPB meets quarterly and drives the direction for the work around hate crime within Hertfordshire. The meetings are an opportunity to discuss all aspects of hate crime from awareness raising, criminal proceedings and community engagement.

About the job

  • Attend the HCPB alongside the current chair at 4 meetings per year (and potential additional meetings).
  • Support signing off the minutes of the meeting, to ensure that they accurately reflect the meetings discussion.
  • Ensure the voices of people and communities experiencing Hate Crime are heard at each HCPB.

About you

  • Experience of working in or closely with voluntary organisations.
  • A desire to develop your influencing skills, your understanding of the organisations who work with Hate Crime and to boost the credibility of this role with organisations and communities.
  • A willingness to develop your working knowledge of Hate Crime legislation and awareness of emerging trends and impacts nationally and locally.
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people.
  • A commitment to ensure the victims’ voice and experience is central to the Hate Crime Partnership Board activity in tackling Hate Crime in Hertfordshire.

What we can offer you

  • An opportunity to engage and influence the work that takes place to address hate crime.
  • Access to training from public sector and voluntary organisations.
  • The opportunity to make sure people and communities affected by Hate Crime in Hertfordshire are represented as they would like at a countywide level.
  • Expenses will be paid.
