We are recruiting to fill a number of permanent Contact and Crime Recording Operator vacancies within the busy 24/7 First Contact Centre at Bedfordshire Police HQ, Kempston. We are looking to fill a number of full and part time positions working variable shift patterns. There are a range of variable shift patterns, including some opportunities to work a 24/7 shift pattern. There are full and part time positions available.

** PLEASE NOTE that the shift allowance and weekend working allowances quoted in this advert are maximums, and are awarded for people working the full 24/7 shift pattern; if you work a different pattern, or work part-time, you will receive less. The actual amount awarded will depend on your specific shift pattern.

As a Contact and Crime Recording Operator you will be talking directly to members of the public assessing and recording calls for police and taking reports of crime directly from victims of crime, along with reports from Police Officers. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent customer service, listening and questioning skills, along with the ability to quickly assimilate information, extracting salient points to establish the circumstances of the incident, assessing risking deciding on the best response for that contact whilst demonstrating empathy to those you speak to. Every call taken is different, and prospective applicants should be aware that sometimes our callers can be quite distressed or describe distressing circumstances. Reports received into the centre are assessed in line with the Forces risk assessment principles known as THRIVE.

We are looking for a good team player, who can also work on their own initiative who possesses the above skills. Knowledge of Police Systems is desirable, but not essential as full training will be given. Demonstrable ICT skills with attention to detail and accuracy are essential. There will be an assessment to test ICT, questioning and listening skills if successfully short listed. All applicants will be required to provide evidence of performance against technical and behavioural competencies detailed in the role profile.

Successful shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an assessment, and if successfully passed invited back for interview at Kempston Headquarters .
