The ICT Department delivers a broad range of Information Technology and Communications technologies, which will enable an apprentice with a keen interest in ICT, to develop their technical and people skills to satisfy the requirements of their Apprenticeship
The role is within the ICT Service Desk, with responsibilities that include:-
Answering telephone calls from internal strategic alliance customers.
Logging incidents and service requests on a Service Management application.
Providing first-line investigation and diagnosis.
Escalating incidents/ service requests that they cannot resolve, within agreed timescales.
Keeping users informed of progress.
Closing resolved incidents, requests and other calls.

The successful candidate will need to be IT Literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) packages.

The apprentice will also be encouraged to undertake the ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library Service Management) Foundation training and Service Desk Institute accreditation.

There is a word count limit of 500 words per section. You will be expected to provide evidence against these personal qualities and the entry requirements stipulated in the role profile.

Please note, if you are shortlisted your details will be passed to North Herts College so that you can attend a pre-select session. If you are successful at pre-select stage, you will be invited for an interview at Hertfordshire Constabulary.

You will be assisted and supported with these responsibilities by your line manager, but you will have contact every day with staff and officers at all levels within the Constabulary, as well as people outside the organisation.

This apprenticeship is for a one year fixed term contract. In the last 12 months, approximately 100% of our apprentices went on to gain a permanent position within Hertfordshire Constabulary. Please note there is no guarantee of a permanent position. We are a large organisation and employment opportunities may develop towards the end of your apprenticeship for which you would need to apply through our normal procedures once you have completed your probationary period. We believe that the experience you will gain throughout your apprenticeship will significantly enhance your ability to find employment inside or outside our organisation.

A £500 taxable bonus is payable on completion of your apprenticeship subject to
• Satisfactory performance and attendance
• Completion of the NVQ, including ERR Workbook, Technical Certificate and Guided Learning Hours, PLUS Functional Skills Level 2 ICT, Maths and English
We encourage our apprentices to undertake some voluntary work within Hertfordshire. This could be with Hertfordshire Constabulary if you are over 18, or with another Hertfordshire organisation, such as a charity.
Successful candidates will be subject to security clearance, the receipt of satisfactory references, and being passed medically fit by our Occupational Health and Welfare Unit to undertake the work.

Please be aware that if you are 24+ or hold a degree you will have to fund the NVQ element of the apprenticeship yourself.
