SCENES OF CRIME OFFICER POSTS – EXTERNAL APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications are invited as various opportunities have arisen for permanent posts of Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO). The posts are as follows:

1. Luton – Beds Police post
2. Luton – Beds Police post
3. Stevenage – Herts Constabulary post
4. Stevenage – Herts Constabulary post

The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic and performance driven team within the Beds/Cambs/Herts Police Scientific Services Unit which is at the forefront of using the latest technology alongside well established forensic techniques to support the organisation in crime investigation. We are currently undergoing the process of ISO accreditation which you will eventually need to be deemed competent within to continue practicing.

You will be required to make full use of your SOCO, investigative & communication skills, available technology and various policing resources to undertake SOCO examinations across the three counties. You will be expected to maintain the highest standards of integrity and demonstrate your SOCO ability, tenacity around crime scene examination and a willingness to learn and function effectively as part of a team. You will need to maintain ISO competence when it comes in to force.

This external advert is applicable ONLY to qualified Volume Crime Scene Examiners (VCSE) or Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) or their equivalent such as Volume CSI, CSI, Assistant Forensic Practitioner, Forensic Practitioner etc. If you are not qualified please do not apply.

Entry requirements are that you must at least be qualified to VCSE or the equivalent. You will need to send supporting evidence of your suitability within the following areas:

• We are emotionally aware (Maximum of 500 words)
• We take ownership (Maximum of 500 words)
• We are collaborative (Maximum of 500 words)
• We deliver, support and inspire (Maximum of 500 words)

Additionally you will need to send copies of your qualification certificates.

All board passed personnel will be offered posts in board pass order until all the posts are filled. If you don’t wish to take up a post because a move of force or station does not suit you, your board pass will remain valid for 12 months.

Courses will be offered, if required, to support your appointment to SOCO and these must be completed and passed within 12 months of appointment.

You will be part of an on call SOCO rota for out of hours response working under the supervision of a Crime Scene Manager. You will also work fully within a shift pattern. The pattern is attached. There will be occasions for operational reasons that working beyond regular hours will be expected. You must have a full current driving licence and may be required to work anywhere in the BCH Tri-Force.
