On 06 May 2016, Kathryn Holloway was elected as the Police and Crime Commissioner for Bedfordshire. Kathryn has already achieved significant progress against many of the pledges within her Police and Crime Plan. Her overarching ambition is to build a safer Bedfordshire and to safeguard frontline policing across the county.

The Commissioner is advertising for two positions. The first is that of Chief of Staff who will be an individual capable of supporting the ambitions of the Police and Crime Plan. The second is a Head of Financial Scrutiny who can ensure that a consistent ‘fit for purpose’ approach to benefits management and financial management is applied across all areas that the OPCC works in.


The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner is based at Kempston, Bedfordshire.

The Role: CHIEF OF STAFF
The Chief of Staff will have overall responsibility for the day to day management of the OPCC office. We are looking for an individual who has extensive experience of implementing complex programmes of change and managing a team. You will have excellent relationship-building skills, alongside an effective influencing style, as you will be required to work with a wide range of partners. You must be able to prioritise issues and workstreams and act decisively and with authority. The Chief of Staff must be able to plan the deployment of people and resources to deliver the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan and explain the activity of the OPCC, as required, to the Police and Crime Panel.

About You:
You will have a strong general management background with excellent administrative and implementation skills. You will have experience of planning and scheduling to improve service quality, outcomes and efficiency. You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relations with others quickly. You must have strong leadership skills as you will manage a team and report directly to the Commissioner. You must have the ability to represent the Commissioner when necessary and the capability to operate at a strategic level. Whilst experience in a public or voluntary sector role/background is not essential, a strong commitment to the ethos of public service and modern policing is required.
