Police Officers rely on a wide range of people to help them do their job, and you can be one of them. Vacancies are currently available across the county for Police Community Support Officers. Within this role you will be giving vital support to officers of Hertfordshire Constabulary; but more than that you will be helping to reassure the public as you will be providing a uniformed presence within the community.

You must be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills as well as having the ability to solve problems, whilst thinking on your feet. You must also have the desire to make a difference to people's lives. We will work with you to maximise these skills (and others) to the utmost potential so you can work to maintain the highest possible levels of public safety.

Police Community Support Officer roles do involve working evenings and weekends although it is possible that flexible working patterns could be considered.

Please note, if you are shortlisted for interview you will be expected to evidence against all 6 personal qualities and the entry requirements stipulated in the role profile. Candidates successful at the application stage will be subjected to assessments and an interview.

You must have a full current driving licence.

With regard to location, we are specifically looking to fill posts in the South West of the county (Watford, Three Rivers, Hertsmere, Dacorum), however others locations are available.

You will be required to work a rotating shift pattern to cover a 40 hour week, including working some weekends and evenings to 23:00.

Initial assessment: w/c 7th July
Interview dates: w/c 21st July
Provisional intake date: September 2014, January 2015

Please note you must pass the Police Initial Recruitment Test (PIRT) to be invited to interview. If successful you will have to undergo a number of pre-employment checks including vetting, health-screening medical and references. Successful candidates will also be required to pass a fitness test as they are expected to be on active patrol (on foot or bicycle) for their shift of 8 hours.

Due to this role involving shift work, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment by the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Department.

Start dates are dependent on a number of factors including all pre-employment checks being completed satisfactorily.

Internal applicants - If you are currently protected under the multiple impact mechanism, please contact your HR Advisor prior to applying for this post to see how it may affect your salary.

Police Officers who accept an offer of a Police Staff role will need to retire as an Officer. Police Officers considering retirement and being re-employed as Police Staff should contact HR to request important tax information regarding retirement and pension payments.
