SO1: Communications and Engagement Officer – Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner

Are you an experienced press officer looking to develop your skills in a public affairs arena?

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is looking for a confident and creative Communications and Engagement Officer to join his team in Police Headquarters in Huntingdon.

The Commissioner is elected to represent the people of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and ensure an effective and efficient police service. He is responsible for setting police and crime objectives, the police budget and for holding the Chief Constable to account.

Your role will be to raise awareness of the Commissioner’s work through a range of media and communication channels. You will also be responsible for organising engagement opportunities with local stakeholders and residents and for ensuring their views are responded to.

An average day could include:

• Handling media enquiries
• Writing press releases, statements and social media content
• Working in partnership on multi-agency campaigns
• Responding to members of the public
• Organising public and/or stakeholder events

You will need at least 3 years’ experience in a busy communications or press office environment and be able to take the initiative to run your own communication campaigns.

You must have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, be a confident and adaptable writer, current working knowledge of effective social media and efficient administration skills.

This is a permanent, full time position, based in Police Headquarters in Huntingdon but will require some travel across the county.
