Rape Investigation Team
Permanent
PC / DC / Trainee DC
Full Time

An exciting and fantastic opportunity has become available for officers to join the Rape Investigation Team (RIT) as a Detective Constables, T/Detective Constable and Police Constable based at the Elms. Officers will be investigating serious sexual offences, working alongside dedicated Detective Constables, Specially Trained Officers and partner agencies, to ensure a first-class service to vulnerable victims and investigations are undertaken at the highest professional level.

The RIT have responsibility for managing and investigating some of the most serious crimes in Cambridgeshire. The post holder will be involved in the investigation of serious and complex cases involving vulnerable victims and adults who report historical serious sexual abuse/live time reporting of such crimes. These can involve allegations of stranger/serial sex attacks, investigating Honour Based Violence offences and Female Genital Mutilation.

The DC role is challenging but incredibly rewarding role that offers an opportunity for officers to progress rapidly along a detective career pathway, where they will obtain vast experience of serious and complex investigative techniques, strategic thinking and partnership engagement.

The key responsibilities for these posts are outlined in the attached Role Profile.

The successful DC candidates will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, keen to learn and able to work independently. Investigate thoroughly but fairly and can demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting and supporting the vulnerable.

The successful candidate will be supported by a mentor within RIT and a bespoke coaching and mentoring plan, designed to support new officers in the RIT to understand the role and achieve objectives towards independent working.

Ideally the DC candidate will be PIP Level 2 qualified, however T/Detective Constables and Police Constables who have completed their probationary period successfully, may also apply.   If you are a Police Constable aspiring to be a Detective, then you would be expected to sign up to the T/DC pathway including taking the NIE exam. The Detective Pathway can then be followed from within the unit, including specialist interview training.

There is also opportunity for Police Constables to join the team as Investigative Support officers.  As a PC, you would be involved in all aspects of serious sexual offence investigations providing invaluable support to the DC investigators.  This is an ideal opportunity for those who want to learn more about life as a Detective.

Applications consist of a 500-word expression of interest, detailing why you feel you have the skills and experience to be considered, your motivation for applying for the role, and a short example of previous experience of a victim centred investigation you have been involved in are welcomed for both roles.

Those wishing to have an informal discussion about the role should contact DI Helen Tebbit.
