Policing is facing some of its most challenging and yet exciting times. Here in the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire Strategic Alliance, we are not only unique in British Policing, but we know that the best way for us to meet and overcome those challenges is to work together as forward thinking, effective police services.

Following more than a decade of collaboration, we are now seeking a Director of ICT to lead what is arguably one of the most interesting and varied technology portfolios you could find. Working across our three combined areas, you will help enable and support a team of over 10,000 dedicated officers and staff whose mission is to support and protect the lives of over 2.7 million residents across nearly 2,500 square miles.

Like other modern businesses, technology is central to all that we do; from our state-of the-art control rooms and 999 call handling systems, to our secure communications networks, body worn cameras and automatic number plate recognition capability, we are data-driven and recognise the power of data in our ongoing fight against crime.

To be successful, you will have the strategic understanding of how technology can not only keep pace with change, but how it can help to predict and overcome future threats and challenges.

This is also a key leadership role and the interpersonal skills needed to lead and motivate not only a geographically dispersed team of over 180 staff, but also work collaboratively across the partners within the alliance, will be critical.

By supporting and guiding our respective chief officer teams, you will work with us and our outstanding workforce, to help protect what is one of the fastest growing populations in the country with its mix of rural and urban communities, and wide range of thriving businesses. You will play a fundamental role in leading and shaping our digital journey and supporting us to take advantage of digital developments in society to improve policing and our services to the public

The area we collectively police is full of contrasts that blend together to create a superb quality of life for residents and visitors alike. We see the diverse nature of our leaders in the same way; so previous experience in policing is not essential.  What is key is a strong sense of social purpose, and an understanding of how your work and that of your team can genuinely positively impact on the lives of not only all our staff, but all those who live, work or visit our area.
