Full Time

An exciting and fantastic opportunity has become available for officers to join the Rape Investigation Team (RIT) as a Specially Trained Officer (STO) based at the Elms.

Officers will be investigating serious sexual offences, working alongside dedicated Detective Constables, Specially Trained Officers and partner agencies, to ensure a first-class service to vulnerable victims and investigations are undertaken at the highest professional level.

The RIT have responsibility for managing and investigating some of the most serious crimes in Cambridgeshire. The post holder will be involved in the investigation of serious and complex cases involving vulnerable victims and adults who report historical serious sexual abuse/live time reporting of such crimes. These can involve allegations of stranger/serial sex attacks, investigating Honour Based Violence offences and Female Genital Mutilation.

The role of a STO is highly rewarding and victim focused. This role is crucial to the success of securing convictions and charges for such offences. STOs are dedicated to victim management, evidential gathering and welfare. STOs will secure evidence from the victims in form of ABEs or statements (where appropriate). They offer vital support and liaise regularly with partner agencies, to ensure that victims are safeguarded and supported through the investigative process and beyond. Furthermore, STOs work alongside officers in the RIT, to help reach successful conclusions on investigations.

The key responsibilities for these posts are outlined in the attached Role Profile.

STO candidates will be able to demonstrate victims being at the heart of any investigation, ability to safeguard and methods of doing so, including evidence gathering qualities.

The successful candidate will be supported by a mentor within RIT and a bespoke coaching and mentoring plan, designed to support new officers in the RIT to understand the role and achieve objectives towards independent working.

The role of a STO is open to any officer.
