An exciting opportunity has arisen for police staff equivalent (PSE), to join the Eastern Regional Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) as a Technical Officer.

Applications are invited for the Police Staff post of Technical Officer within the Technical Development Unit (TDU) of the ERSOU Regional Cyber Crime Unit (RCCU). Ideally applicants will be experienced penetration testers, skilled in coding and software development, however applications from staff with basic experience are welcome, but depending on the level of interest, trained and experienced staff would take precedence at paper sift.

This will be a Permanent position based in Hertfordshire. Bedfordshire is the lead Force for ERSOU and a member of staff would be employed by Bedfordshire Police in grade PO1.

ERSOU TDU officers’ conduct proactive investigations into serious and organised criminality, utilising Technical skills to target individuals involved in crime which has significant regional or national impact and/or is linked to organised crime as tasked nationally. The Technical Development Officer is key to these investigations, providing a Digital perspective on methods to target criminals. Working as part of a small team, they will use their skills in Penetration Testing and Coding where authorised, to identify and take advantage of technical opportunities. They will also develop or maintain Technical tools used for this purpose.

The normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.
