National Police Aviation Project Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cambridgeshire Police as a National Police Aviation Project Manager.

Police aviation currently sits within the national Operations Coordination Committee, chaired by Chief Constable Alec Wood. Following a study conducted by HMICFRS in 2017, work is ongoing to review the provision of aviation to the police service and, to deliver against the HMIC recommendations. The national aviation project manager will be essential to the success of this work by developing a new police aviation strategy.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of operational policing, together with a comprehensive background within police aviation. This must include either holding or having held the role of Accountable Manager under CAA regulations.

Working with a broad range of colleagues, including chief officers, the Home Office, Police and Crime Commissioners, aviation experts and the College of Policing, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing an air operations strategy, defining the operational outcomes for the police service, developing tactical air operations guidance and exploring collaborative opportunities.

The role is a national post which is hosted by Cambridgeshire police and will be for a fixed term contract of 12 months, working 20 hours a week.

There are no direct reports and the post holder will be line managed by an Assistant Chief Constable.

The successful applicant will undertake much of the work on an agile basis and home working. There will be a requirement to attend regular national meetings, so the post holder must have the ability to travel on a national basis.

For the purposes of the application you will be expected to provide evidence against the entry requirements and the following personal qualities:

- We take ownership
- We are collaborative
- We analyse critically

There is a word count limit of 500 words per section.
If you are shortlisted for interview you will be expected to evidence against all personal qualities and the entry requirements as stipulated in the role profile.

Further information on the post can be obtained from Chief Inspector Mike Hills at mike.hills@cambs.pnn.police.uk or telephone 07785 507289.

We welcome applications from external candidates as well as internal staff from Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Bedfordshire Police and Hertfordshire Constabulary.
