We are looking for two People Development Officers to join our Continuous Professional Development Unit (CPDU).

The newly created CPDU's provide ongoing training to Police Officers as well as supporting Student Police Officers who are evidencing their competence in order to pass their probationary period. In addition to this they arrange attachments for officers to help them broaden their experience and knowledge. You will be required to understand the work the CPDU does in order to support them. Both CPDU's currently have 6 members of staff, a Sergeant who supervises the unit and 5 Constables who provide the coaching to the front-line teams. The team will be expanding in the near future so there will be coaches covering more teams meaning more training and development.

Overall, the CPDU's are overseen by an Inspector who provides the management of the department. Although you will report directly to the Sergeant for the CPDU, you will maintain a close functional link with the People Business Partner who is the Professional Lead for this area.

The role will involve giving guidance to a team of coaches as they support officers throughout their development as well as giving day to day support and direction to Police Sergeants / Inspectors to allow them to make decisions as first and second line managers.

You will also need to support managers with HR data in order to help them understand how effectively their teams are performing / developing.

There are two roles available with one being based in the North of the County (Thorpe Wood Police Station, Peterborough) covering both Fenland & Peterborough and the other based in the South of the County (Parkside Police Station, Cambridge) covering both Huntingdonshire & Cambridge.

Although you will be based in either Peterborough or Cambridge, there may be a need to travel to any station within Cambridgeshire to face to face support, there will also be opportunity to work from home where operational need allows it. There will also be a requirement to spend time attending meetings at our HQ in Huntingdon.

The successful candidate will need to familiarise with police regulations as well as general employment law so that they can provide accurate and timely advice to line managers in connection with performance proceedings. You will be required to keep your knowledge current so that you can provide the best support to our teams.

You will usually be working Monday-Friday between 0900 & 1700 although there may be some flexibility in these working times.
