You must have experience in dealing with CHIS. Candidates will have already passed a College of Policing Enhanced Source Management Course or equivalent. Candidates will also be expected to pass the HMPPS CHIS handling course.

The CHIS in Prisons team, support ERSOU, Regional Forces, HMPPS (Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service), and other Law Enforcement by responding to the intelligence requirements of those key partners through the handling of Covert Human Intelligence Sources within and where necessary outside of Her Majesty’s Prisons. The team compromises Police Officers and Police Staff, who are all trained and accredited Handlers and Controllers, and who report to the Regional Head of Human in ERSOU. The team are based in Suffolk; however, flexibility is required in relation to start times and locations in order to service operational needs.

Applicants must be fit, and able to undertake and pass the current Beds Police fitness and self-defence course once in role. Applicants must be experienced and nationally accredited handlers with a good knowledge of IT systems including Force Intelligence Systems, PNC and CHIS handling systems such as Charter, to enable these systems to be used to undertake the principal accountabilities of the role.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the minimum entry requirements from the role profile (maximum 500 words).

If you are an internal applicant working within BCH (Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary or Hertfordshire Constabulary), please upload either your CV or a completed internal role summary form. This form can be found in the attached documents. Please note you will still be required to evidence against the minimum entry requirements.

If you are an external applicant, please ensure you upload your CV and evidence against the minimum entry requirements from the role profile. To ensure the recruitment process is fair and equal, please do not include any personal details on your CV, other than your name. An internal role summary form should not be completed.

Please note that this advert will be live to redeployees throughout the recruitment process until a conditional offer is made. Any redeployee that applies will only need to evidence against the minimum entry requirements of the role profile. To do this if you are a redeployee, write ‘Redeployee’ in the other competency boxes and just complete your evidence against the minimum entry requirements in the relevant box.
