The Crime and Conduct team of the Beds Cambs Herts Professional Standards Department is currently seeking to appoint an investigating officer to both act as the single point of contact for conduct matters being investigated by the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC, formerly the IPCC) and conduct some local investigations.

This post is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a strong background in dealing with professional and legal bodies and conducting complex investigations expeditiously in accordance with investigation policy and relevant legal requirements. The successful candidate will be the three force point of contact for the provision of information required by the IOPC in the investigation of independent conduct cases as well as completing some investigations in the gross misconduct arena and compiling complex investigations/reports.

These are complex and sensitive investigations involving BCH Police Officers and staff. It can be a stressful environment with a high workload demanding high quality paperwork and file submission and good attention to detail as we deal with legally qualified professionals and other outside agencies including, especially in this role, the IOPC.

Knowledge of the IOPC Statutory Guidance to the Police Service, The Police Reform Act 2002 – Schedule 3, The Police Complaints and Misconduct regulations 2012, The Police Performance Regulations 2012 and the Code of Ethics is desirable and an internal knowledge of the BCH complaints/misconduct procedures would also be of benefit.

Applicants will not only have a proven track record within the investigation field but must also provide ample evidence of working with pride and professionalism in line with the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour. Please refer to 3.1.14 of the BCH01/015 Recruitment, Selection, Posting and Promotion Policy around restrictions on applications.

This post is designated as an ‘unallocated’ post so is open to all interested staff from across Bedfordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary or Hertfordshire Constabulary – the salary scale will be at SO1 / SO1 / A4 level.

These posts will be based at Biggleswade but operating across the three forces is an essential requirement of these roles.

Interested candidates are advised to speak with:
• Crime and Conduct Team – Detective Inspector Ben Martin 01234 84 2559 / 07850 142 649 or email Benjamin.Martin@cambs.pnn.police.uk in the first instance for further information.
