Applications are invited for an authorised National Firearms Instructor with existing Armourer qualifications to join the armed policing function within Joint Protective Services (JPS) in the role of Firearms training armourer; with the responsibility of managing the daily maintenance requirements of an armoury, firearms and ammunition and in addition provide firearms training to officers within the Armed Policing Unit.

This is a full-time, permanent police staff post at *Sc6/SO1 grade for an individual looking to continue their career and work within a fast paced and ever evolving area of business. The successful candidate may occasionally be required to travel across the tri-force but the permanent base locations will be Bedfordshire Police Headquarters and Cambridgeshire Police Headquarters.

The post holder will be required to undertake a range of responsibilities, including (but not limited to);
• Manage, inspect, maintain and repair the full range of weapons and ammunition held in force and any associated specialist equipment to national and manufacturers’ standards.
• Conduct regular Armoury and range inspections and arrange and oversee any maintenance required
• Maintain electronic records and the Chronicle database in relation to all weapons, ammunition and other associated assets ensuring stock rotation and correct management and storage.
• Ensure all the Firearms & Tasers in the Strategic Alliance are annually serviced and support given to each force in respect of any maintenance and associated issues.
• Assist in managing the relevant budgetary stream in respect forecasting future use of ammunition, weapon spares, range maintenance and recommendations on future purchases for ongoing replacement.
• Represent the APU with contact with internal and external partners and manufacturers and National bodies and working groups.
• Delivery of Firearms Tactical Training
• Delivery of Firing Range based training
Entry requirements
Candidates are required to possess the following skills/attributes;
• Knowledge of the use of firearms within a police or military environment
• Demonstrates an aptitude with handling weapons and an ability to pass maintenance and examination training
• Can demonstrate knowledge of policies and guidelines relating to the police use of firearms
• Understands the principles of effective Health & Safety management
• Currently qualified as a National Firearms Instructor
• Demonstrates knowledge of the current training methods within an Armed Policing function
• Police Armourer (Advanced) Qualification
• Range Safety Inspector qualified
• Able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of relevant local, organisational and national firearms procedures
