An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Covert Authorities Bureau (CAB) for motivated Police Staff with an excellent work ethic to fill a current vacancy. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for a number of areas of covert policing including ensuring Force compliance with RIPA in relation to Surveillance Authorities and also Part III Authorities under the Police Act 1997.  It will also include a number of other roles including the facilitation and management of Prison Authorities, the Force’s responsibilities for the review and retention of covertly obtained data and provide resilience around the administration and management of CHIS’. The post holder will be expected to be part of an on-call Rota providing an out of hours service. 

This is an ideal opportunity to gain valuable experience within the Covert Authorities arena and learn the bespoke skills of RIPA Compliance Officer within this sensitive policing landscape both locally and regionally. 

Essential criteria: The successful applicant must have a working knowledge of the management of CHIS’. 

Desirable criteria: It is desirable that you have other skills for example previous experience in CHIS administration and management, covert policing, working knowledge of RIPA Part I & II and the ability to deal with ‘High Risk’ incidents during ‘Out of Hours’ call outs. This is desirable but not essential. 

Successful applicants will be required to undertake vetting to ‘SC’ and ‘MV’ level. This is a challenging but rewarding role providing an opportunity to become involved in the complex area of covert policing.

Duration of the contract with be an initial 12-month Fixed Term which is subject to review and the possibility that this will be extended.
