Where possible we will also consider flexible working requests.

Applications are invited from Detective and Police Constables / TI’s to join the Eastern Regional Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) for vacancies on the Southern Investigation Team (SIT).

This advert is open to officers within the region from Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Kent and Cambridgeshire.

At this time this advert is not open to Essex.

The ERSOU SIT conduct proactive and reactive investigations into serious and complex crimes under the Eastern Region Control Strategy utilising covert methods and tactics. The team is made up of multi-skilled investigators and surveillance operatives. Officers are based within Mid-Hertfordshire but will need to demonstrate a flexible approach to start times and locations to meet operational objectives.

Successful applicants will be expected to pass an Advanced Driving Course and Surveillance Course. Once trained, there are further opportunities to specialise such as Armed Surveillance and other covert tactics. (Armed Surveillance training is not mandatory)

The post is open to both Detective and Police Constables who have a proven track record in dealing with serious and complex criminal investigations. If the Constable is not a Detective, they will be expected to join and pass the TI process.

Applicants outside of the Eastern Region would need to resign from their home force and transfer to Bedfordshire Police before being seconded back to ERSOU. Should the applicant not be successful on the TI process or Q1 surveillance course then the officer may have to be re-deployed within Bedfordshire.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.
