Could you lead our communications response to serious and organised crime in Bedfordshire? We are looking for someone with ideas, energy and who loves to innovate who can take on the challenge of helping us take down the county's most serious criminals.

Operation Costello is the biggest operation we have ever run to combat serious and organised crime. The Home Office has funded this special operation in Bedfordshire to go after those involved in high level offending such as large scale drug importation, modern slavery and weapons trafficking. So far offenders have been jailed for more than 150 years as a result of Op Costello investigations, with many more cases currently progressing through the courts.

We are recruiting a senior communications advisor who would lead on Op Costello, as well as driving the communications response to serious and organised crime both in policing and across all our partner agencies here in Bedfordshire. You will be given time, space and significant budget to run proactive campaigns which raise awareness of the violence and exploitation linked to organised crime, deter young and vulnerable people from getting involved as well as publicising the police enforcement that gets these gangs causing misery to our communities off the streets.

The successful candidate will have excellent communications skills, working knowledge of media law, experience of working under pressure and as part of a wider team, with an excellent eye for detail and confidence to persuade and influence officers at all levels.

We are a small force with big challenges and often find ourselves in the national spotlight, so this role would be a perfect opportunity for a communications professional looking to progress their career and make an impact here in Bedfordshire.

Design and video-editing skills would be an advantage. The role is being offered as a fixed term contract until 31 March 2024. We would welcome interest from anyone looking to take the role on as a secondment.
