Special Constable
Bedfordshire Police Force
Forcewide
Did you know that as a civilian you can volunteer to become a Special Constable?

The Special Constabulary plays an important role in providing additional officers at local events, such as peak times on Friday and Saturday nights. People join the Special Constabulary for many different reasons, many wanting to give something back to the community.

Special Constables are expected to carry out the same duties as their Police Officer colleagues. They are issued with the same uniform and equipment and are given full Police training.

You are required to volunteer for a minimum of 16 hours per month.

The initial training is carried out at Bedfordshire Police Headquarters, Kempston. Applicants MUST be able to commit to either an 8 week course which consists of 2 evenings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and 3 weekends, only 2 weekends required for applicants who already hold a Emergency First Aid Certificate.
OR
a 2 week intensive course involving Monday to Friday 08:00-17:00 for all applicants plus 1 weekend for those applicants who do not already hold a Emergency First Aid Certificate.

Please note that some civilian posts eg Security Officers are not compatible alongside the role of a Special Constable. If unsure please contact the Recruiting team (please refer to force website) to check your eligibility.

This opportunity is closed to applications.
