Applications are sought from substantive Sergeants to join our Counter Terrorism Surveillance Team based in Hertfordshire. This exciting and challenging secondment is at the forefront of national counter terrorism policing.

Experience or knowledge of surveillance tactics is preferred. The successful applicant must pass an advanced driving course and national surveillance course before the posting can be confirmed . 

This advert is open to officers within the region from Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. External officers are eligible to apply but should they be successful would be required to transfer to Bedfordshire Police.

At this time this advert is not open to Essex or Hertfordshire police officers, however, officers from those forces may be considered for transfer to Bedfordshire Police to take up this post.

The post will be one of two surveillance team leaders, responsible for the day to day supervision of the regions Counter Terrorism Surveillance Team. The successful applicant will be responsible for tactical supervision of the team set against key operational objectives. The role will involve the use of a wide range of covert tactics, including mobile surveillance, to investigate, gather intelligence and disrupt terrorist activities. The successful applicant will have an energetic, flexible and innovative approach to working within this proactive environment, with the willingness to work unsocial hours at short notice on live operations.

There will be an expectation of being away from home overnight on occasions.

A vital part of our mission is the collection of high quality evidence and intelligence for the police and our partner agencies in order to bring terrorists to justice, a key process in maintaining the safety and security of our country.

Interested applicants must demonstrate their ability to work with the highest standards of integrity, in line with the Code of Ethics.

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting and Security Clearance or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined.

This post is designated a ‘reserved post’ under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals. If you hold dual nationality, one component of which is British, you may also be considered. However, if successful, you may be asked to relinquish your non‐British nationality (and any entitlement you may have to a foreign nationality) as a condition of your confirmation of appointment with CTP. One of your parents should also be British or have substantial ties to the UK. In the latter instance; substantial ties means that your parent is a citizen of a British Overseas Territory, a Commonwealth citizen, US citizen, EEA citizen, British national or citizen overseas, and they would need to have demonstrable connections with the UK by way of family history or have been resident here for a substantial period of time.

If you’re already married to, or cohabiting with, a person who isn’t a British citizen, you may still be eligible for employment at the discretion of the department. You should note however, that marriage to, or cohabitation with, a person who isn’t a British citizen after appointment may, in some circumstances, result in the withdrawal of security clearance and subsequent transfer to another department, or (if this is not possible or the officer does not wish to transfer) dismissal. Each case will be considered on its merits, taking into account the ties between the person involved and the United Kingdom.

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:

As this is a PDF document this will need to be wet signed. We will accept an audit trail of emails from your line manager and Head of Department if a wet signature is not achievable.
