This is an exciting opportunity to join ERSOU as part of the prison intelligence capability for the region. The Regional Prison Intelligence Unit is seeking a highly motivated officer to work in partnership at HMP Highpoint in Suffolk. 

External officers from outside of the Eastern Region are eligible to apply but if successful would be required to transfer to Bedfordshire Police. Please note that you would have needed to successfully completed a 2 years probationary period with your home force/constabulary before applying. 

Experience & Qualifications: 

  • Individual must demonstrate competence in substantive rank
  • Authorised police driver (any level) with full UK driving licence
  • Is up to date with unarmed defence tactic training.
  • Working knowledge of RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act), NIM (National Intelligence Model) MOPI (Management of Police Information, Offender Management Act 2007 and various prison legislation.
  • Experience of using Information Technology (IT) including Microsoft Word and Excel. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for proactive intelligence gathering from prison establishments throughout the region in line with National, Regional and Force priorities. They will target Organised Crime Group Nominals, using covert and overt tactics to impact on the threat, risk and harm posed by active high-risk individuals within the prison environment. 

The successful applicant will also be required to work at HMP Highpoint in the main but on occasions support colleagues across the region. 

They will be supported by a dedicated Detective Sergeant and a regionally based Prison Intelligence Unit, (core team). 

Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo Management Vetting (5 years residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5 years residency criteria) or Development vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. Please be aware the Police Corporate Vetting Unit will undertake security vetting on successful candidates, their family and others that live at their home address, which will include financial checks. Due to the sensitive nature of these checks, we are not able to supply feedback should clearance be declined. 

You will be expected to provide written evidence around the following competencies and the minimum entry requirements from the role profile:

Please note there is 500 words limit for each competency. 

All applicants must print off a copy of the ROCU application approval form and pass this onto their line manager and head of department for authorisation. As this is a PDF document this will need to be wet signed. We will accept an audit trail of emails from your line manager and Head of Department if a wet signature is not achievable. 

The completed approval form needs to be returned to ersou.recruitment@herts.pnn.police.uk as close to the closing date as possible. Application forms will not be progressed to the shortlisting stage until the recruitment team has received a completed approval form. 

Kent Officers must inform HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) at the earliest opportunity of your intention to apply for this secondment.   In addition every Officer application/approval form must be signed by your Ch Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to HR Resource Planning (hr.resource.planning@kent.essex.pnn.police.uk) no later than 5 working days prior to closing date, unless exceptional circumstances apply.  This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained, where required, for your application to progress, which will be managed by HR Resource Planning.  Both of these steps must be completed prior to submission to the recruiting organisation.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
