The Bedfordshire Police Cyber & Fraud Unit are seeking to recruit an exceptional individual for the role of Cyber Protect/Prevent Officer, initially for a fixed-term contract until 31/03/2022. With cyber-dependent crime becoming more prevalent and the difficulties in prosecuting offenders, the Protect and Prevent role is crucial in stopping cyber criminals gaining a further foothold within Bedfordshire.

Fraud makes up a significant amount of reported and unreported crime, and sophisticated techniques mean that more victims are losing significant sums of money, and perpetrators are increasingly difficult to trace and prosecute. You will be expected to deliver against national and local objectives and will be working closely with the national and regional networks, as well as other key partners.

In terms of the Protect role, you will need to build up relationships with all sectors of society so that Protect messaging can be delivered to all sections of the community, from school children to businesses and the elderly, adjusting your delivery to meet the needs of the audience. Within the Prevent remit, you will need to be able to deliver effective messages and take appropriate action against individuals who are vulnerable to becoming involved in cyber-crime.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and delivering presentations to all sections of the community to ensure people know how to protect themselves from fraud and cyber dependent crime
  • Complete all Action Fraud returns, ensuring all Bedfordshire victims are appropriately provided with protect advice or where required, provide an enhanced service to minimise the chances of becoming a repeat victim, all in alignment with the force fraud policy.
  • Support national schemes on a local level such as the schools cyber challenge
  • To develop partnerships with academia and private sector bodies such as banks, federation of small business etc to create new schemes and campaigns which will help protect potential victims.
  • To plan and deliver appropriate methods in dealing with Prevent packages that are sent via ERSOU. These can involve arrest, warrants, C&D letters and referrals to other agencies.
  • To attend national and regional meetings and conferences to ensure that you are up to date and consistent with national messaging and developments.
  • You must be able to work with minimal supervision, generate your own work and be able to demonstrate tangible results.
  • Whilst the role is based on office hours Monday to Friday, some flexibility to work late and the occasional weekend may be required dependant on third party requirements.

All internal applicants must have successfully completed their probationary period in order to apply for this role.

Internal applicants within Bedfordshire Police, should upload their CV or a completed ‘Staff internal role summary’ form (if you do not have a current CV), which can be found in the vacancy documents below.
